Who are we?
We are just "regular" kids who devote our lives to this amazing activity. Anybody in grades 9-12 at Dirigo can take part in our team, infact we invite you to come join our team.
What do we do?
We take part in what is known as "forensics". Not the type involving dead bodies, horrid smells, or alot of blood(most of the time), but rather, the type of forensics in search of the truth. In debate you must find the correct solution to a broad topic, and in speech you must find a new way to express your self. More importantly, though, speech and debate competition is an intellectually stimulating activity, and a good way to meet other potential leaders at Dirigo, and at other schools around the state of Maine. Here at Dirigo High School we have a few events you may take part in:
- Speech events(Extemp, Impromptu, Dramatic, Humorous, Duo, Prose/poetry, Original Oratory)
- Lincoln Douglas Debate
- Public Forum Debate
When do we do it?
On non-competition weeks practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Mr. Conant's room(Trailer) from 2:30-4
On Competition weeks practices are held from Tuesdays to Fridays from 2:30- sometimes as late as 6 PM
We compete on Saturdays, and at the absolute most, you only have to worry about competitions once a week, rather than every few nights. Typically, there’s a competition about every two weeks.
